Through my art I seek to express and share the magical wonder I see and feel in nature. Walking in the woods or along the seashore, so much fascinates me and drives me to attempt to capture its essence -- the rhythmic roll of ocean waves, the glow of the full moon, the twinkling of lightning bugs on summer nights, the stark beauty of bare trees in winter, reflections in a pond... these themes I paint in an abstract or impressionistic style, depending on the particular subject. Cats, and various birds, also find their way into my paintings. I am also passionate about color, patterns, and words, which I explore in my collages and oil paintings.
I adore the vibrance of the pigments and the interplay of color possible with pastel. The dymamic flow and brilliance of watercolor fascinates me. I thrive on the ability to combine various media, papers, and techniques in collage. And recently I began exploring the rich, luscious world of oil painting. I had shied away from working in oils due to concern about using toxic (and smelly!) solvents. Since learning of newer, safer solvents, and of techniques that minimize or even eliminate the need for solvents, I am now painting in oils as well. Currently I work in all these media as I strive to share my delight and deep appreciation for our amazing world.
One of the local places that inspires me: Gray's Mill Pond, Westport, MA.
